"Walking the Plank"

Good friend and musical collaborator Ron Ward died last night. RIP, my friend. This song, one of the first we wrote together, features Ron on bass, acoustic guitar, and vocals.

Rejected by folks on my side of the tracks once again
The folks on the other side still won't let me in
The only place that I feel safe is standing on the wall here in-between
But they got me on the gangplank
Soon I will be pushed into the sea

I'm walking the plank
A balancing act on the wall
There's no one to catch me on either side if I fall
I'm walking the plank
With an ocean of strangers below

Too righteous for those I grew up with in my neighborhood
The wealthier people point their fingers and say I'm no good
The more I try to raise my name
The less the others let me get ahead
The pirates' only instinct is to keep me from their gold until I'm dead

I'm walking the plank
A balancing act on the wall
There's no one to catch me on either side if I fall
I'm walking the plank
With an ocean of strangers below

I'm walking the plank
