A Distant Apology

Things I've said that might have hurt you
Cast them all away
And let the only thing you hear
Be soft and far away
A tiny voice, once very near
Is calling lone and frail
Triggering memories past and dim
Yet glowing still and pale
You see a figure lift its head
Then lower it again
Then kneel before you, chin to chest
The humblest of men
And thus, with utmost gratitude
The voice in volume grows
The language it is speaking
Is one only you will know
No words it forms
No need for those
The message is quite clear:
All is well, our lives have grown
Peace be with you, my dear
