In my
lyric-writing during the 1980s, I was more apt to take on other voices than I
am these days. I thought it was interesting to write from a perspective different
than, and frequently contrary to my own. This is an example of the latter.
Film To The Fire

Gather the jury
Someone bring in
the offender
Judge with no
mercy
The found felon
surrender
Lighting,
striking the match
One more film to
the fire, burning
Better the fire
than be seen
Shouldn't let the
kids see
What they'll grow
up to be
Film to the fire
for keeping
Duty beckons
An old cause
calls for new measures
Devil influence
Disguised, hiding
from justice
Find it fighting
the word
Puritan matters
Cotton Mather
Learn from his
father
One man follows
his calling
Believing he's
saving the world
One more film to
the fire, burning
Better the fire
than be seen
Shouldn't let the
kids see
What they'll grow
up to be
Film to the fire
for keeping
Time consumes
Makes room for
others
One man follows
his calling
Believing he's
saving the world
One more film to
the fire, burning
Better the fire
than be seen
Shouldn't let the
kids see
What they'll grow
up to be
Film to the fire
for keeping
