"The Daisy Vents"

I have one Facebook friend who makes a conscientious effort to NOT read Facebook or watch the news first thing in the morning, because it depresses her. I see her point. Facebook is so full of vitriolic opinions, misinformation, and obscenity that it can be a downer. As for the news, the day’s events that get reported are usually not the happy ones.

We read about the Daisy Vents
But we sing about love
Why read about the Daisy Vents
Just to sing about love?
It seems petty and trite
Making up a world where everything’s right
It seems false and unwise
Peddling a pack of happy lies
When we read about the Daisy Vents
How can we sing of love?

Take a closer look at the Daisy Vents
Where is there room for love?
Backed into every corner of the globe
Packed into every ordinary cold-hearted beast
There’s still a piece that feels the need
To perform a selfless deed

How can we find it?
How can we bring it out
When some choose to hide it,
Not knowing what love’s about?

So we read about the Daisy Vents
And we dream about love
And we think about the Daisy Vents
And we hope that love
Will make it all better in the end
When we gather with our friends
As we work to mend another day’s events
