I made a rough
demo recording of this one on a cassette called “Heap O’ Squids,” but I no
longer have a copy of it. Let’s face it: flattery works!
A quick note on those oh-ever-too-short-shorts in the artwork below the lyrics: Yes, I actually used to wear them that short. Why? I must have wanted to show off my legs! I don't like "shorts" that come down past knees, but I can't imagine myself wearing those Daisy Dukes now. I've occasionally flirted with androgyny, hence "blonde" rather than "blond" in the title. I hesitated to include that picture here, but what's a little embarrassment among friends?

Testing 1, 2, 3
Caressing
Are you testing me?
Groping
Probing wordfully
Poking
Are you stroking me?
Feeding me your compliments like amatory condiments
Dripping from your tongue
We like to be told we're sexy even if it isn't true
We're suckers for happy endings
We still believe "I love you"
So don't be ashamed if you find yourself falling
For lines and lies when you hear the sweet call of flattery
Flattery
Lying
Vying for my time
Crying
What're you trying for?
Gently
Empty phrases fall
Trembling
Tempting to hear more
We like to be told we're sexy even if it isn't true
We're suckers for happy endings
We still believe "I love you"
So don't be ashamed if you find yourself falling
For lines and lies when you hear the sweet call of flattery
Flattery
I know it's not sincere
But I'm still sitting here
Feeding me your compliments like amatory condiments
Dripping from your tongue
We like to be told we're sexy even if it isn't true
We're suckers for happy endings
We still believe "I love you"
So don't be ashamed if you find yourself falling
For lines and lies when you hear the sweet call of flattery
Flattery
