"Do What You're Able"

Only once in a great while did I attempt to write a dumb pop song. Even less often did I try to write a dumb folk song. This was the result. It’s a dumb folk song, all right, so in that sense, I succeeded. The better goal, however, would have been to write a GOOD dumb folk song or a GOOD dumb pop song. It’s harder than you think. Go ahead. Try it. All those “Dumb” songs on the radio aren’t so dumb after all.

Do What You're Able

© Brian Hutzell 1985

Do what you're able
Do what you can
Do what you want to
For your fellow man

Go where you want to
Go where you can
Go where you're needed
By your fellow man

Say what comes easy
Say what you can
Speak up for justice
For your fellow man

Be someone useful
Be what you can
Be willing and able
To help your fellow man
