“Big Plans” was first recorded on my “December
1985” cassette, and then re-recorded for inclusion in “TFM” in early 1986.
After recording 60+ songs in less than 6 months, I was a bit burnt out in spring
of 1986. I began sequencing another group of songs to be recorded, but only a
handful ever made it to tape before I went back to school at the start of 1987.
I’ve always considered that one my life’s biggest blunders: both the not
finishing of the recordings and the going back to school. I ended up liking the
University of Massachusetts – Boston though, even if I never once made use of
my degree in Finance. The classes I really enjoyed were the ones in Religious
Studies, which came as a surprise to me. In fact, I liked those courses so much
that I toyed with the idea of pursuing a higher degree at Harvard Divinity
School. That turned out to be yet another big plan that failed to materialize,
however.
Big Plans
© Brian Hutzell 1985
I sit at a table
With a pen and pencil
And a piece of paper
And a pink eraser
I sit, thinking
Then I stand, begin pacing
And I think as I pace
About the food we waste
Big plans to save the world
That's what it's there for
Big plans to become a savior
That's what I'm here for
Big plans to help the hungry
Provide nutrition
Big plans, a world-wide grocer
Is my ambition
A solution, a cure
It'll work, I'm sure
So simple, so clear
In less than a year
No hunger, no poor
No starvation, no war
I'm a genius and a saint
That much is plain
Big plans to save the world
That's what it's there for
Big plans to become a savior
That's what I'm here for
Big plans to help the hungry
Provide nutrition
Big plans, a world-wide grocer
Is my ambition
