When I was a kid,
I liked the Los Angeles Dodgers for the simple reason that my dad liked them.
My favorite player was catcher Steve Yeager, and for a while I entertained the
idea that I would be a Major League baseball catcher, so I could be more like
him. But baseball and I were never on the same team. I was the most unathletic
child ever, and one of the very few boys in my school who never joined Little
League. A stronger influence than baseball was at work: music! Even more than I
wanted to be Steve Yeager, I wanted to be David Cassidy. Unfortunately, teen
idol-dom and I were never on the same team either.

That has made all

Could’ve been an

A famous novelist
or a librarian
Could've been a

Could’ve been
