"A-Bomb" with commentary

This is the opening song on the Plastic Mikey CD “Cook Up Something New!” Kevin Dempsey wrote the music, and I wrote the lyrics. The band featured Kevin on guitar and vocals, Mike Mokry on bass, Rich Alifantis on drums, Andy Blanco on sax, and myself on keyboards and vocals. We broke up shortly after releasing our CD. Occasionally, I see one of those CDs turn up on EBay or Amazon, which I find amusing. We didn’t make very many of them, and sold hardly any. I gave most of them away.

A-Bomb

Don't come out yet, I'm not ready
Wait until my world is steady
You can't understand my hunger
Till you see the strain I'm under
I just learned the tide has turned
And when I heard, the news hit me like an A-Bomb

I can hear Aladdin laughing
Something good is bound to happen
In the meantime, I can manage
Without you to change my bandage
I don't care if you think I'm square
It isn't fair to hit me with an A-Bomb

With an A-Bomb
That's what the message came on
An A-Bomb
I'm trying to pin my name on
An A-Bomb
It's time to turn the flame on
And burn till the stars become my home
And burn till the stars become my home

My desk is piled with hopes and papers
Buried under useless labors
I reign from a swivel throne with padding
Sitting when I should be standing
I don't care if you think I'm square
It isn't fair to hit me with an A-Bomb

Too much time with notes and ledgers
Gotta find some new adventures
The trip is bound to be wild and stormy
But at least I see the road before me
I just learned the tide has turned
And when I heard, the news hit me like an A-Bomb
Yeah, I just learned the tide has turned
And when I heard, the news hit me like an A-Bomb

Like an A-Bomb
That's what the message came on
An A-Bomb
I'm trying to pin my name on
An A-Bomb
It's time to turn the flame on
And burn till the stars become my home
And burn till the stars become my home

And burn till the stars become my home
