" One Special Lady"

I generally try to keep my Facebook presence apolitical (http://www.facebook.com/brianhutzellmusic/), preferring to use it for fun and silliness. Earlier tonight, I slipped and found myself involved in a hot button argument. To the credit of most of those involved, it was a fairly intelligent and respectful discussion, unlike many FB exchanges. Still, a couple of trolls managed to spout their vitriol into the proceedings. Grrr!

“One Special Lady” was written just before my return to college in 1987. I left several songs in unfinished states of recording, including this one. Ron Ward was singing lead. We lost Ron just a couple months ago. I hadn’t seen him in years, but we kept in touch through Facebook. It’s in cases like that, in keeping friendships alive and well, that Facebook shines.

Current listening: Andy Williams, Merry Christmas

One Special Lady

I have reserved a table set for two
And I am saving one place for my special lady
If she'll consent to see me in public one last time
I know we said never again, but just once more

One special lady
Two of us waiting
Who'll be the first to speak
Who'll be the first one to let feelings show
Let the words go
Let down your barriers, my special lady, oh

I have so much to tell you, so much to say
So many questions we could have answered
But never did we make the effort
To hear the story from another personal point of view
It's up to you

One special lady
Two of us waiting
Who'll be the first to speak
Who'll be the first one to let feelings show
Let the words go
Let down your barriers, my special lady, oh

The letters I've written to you come back to me one by one
You can't even face me without opprobrium

I'm sitting at the table all alone
And I am asking for one more vodka martini
And looking to the ceiling I see my special lady
She spits in my eye then moves on with a laugh

One special lady
One of us waiting
You were the first to speak
You were the first one to let feelings show
Let the words go
Let down your barriers, my special lady, oh
