"Let Me Try To Explain"

This collaboration was one of the last songs I wrote and recorded before going back to school for my BS in Finance. The team of Mark, Ron and Brian (MRB) only completed three songs, but they all came out well. Now Ron is dead, and I’ve lost touch with Mark. Life changes. Hitomi and I may be on the cusp of another change. She accepted a job that may or may not be temp-to-hire, which starts in two weeks. I’ve applied to some grad schools which may or may not accept me; in any case, we won’t find out for another 2-3 months. Finances may dictate that we find a cheaper place to live. And so on.

Let Me Try To Explain

© 1986 Brian Hutzell, Ron Ward and Mark Linford

Let me try to explain how I felt when we met
The romance and champagne
Playing games that ended in bed
Let me try to explain - didn't mean for you to call me
Didn't wanna be your flame
You shouldn't have followed me
I thought I made it clear
It couldn't last much longer anyway
You're going way too far here
Tomorrow has more hope than yesterday

Let me try to explain
Didn't mean for it to turn out this way
Didn't wanna cause you pain
Let me try to explain the way I feel

No one is to blame
There is no explanation
You'll fall in love again
You don't need this infatuation
You just carry on
Live your life without me
Someone later on will make you forget about me

I thought I made it clear
It couldn't last much longer anyway
You're going way too far here
Tomorrow has more hope than yesterday

Let me try to explain
Didn't mean for it to turn out this way
Didn't wanna cause you pain
Let me try to explain
Let me try to explain
Didn't mean for it to turn out this way
Didn't wanna cause you pain
Let me try to explain the way I feel

I don't remember the title of this one, but I painted it in Cambridge in 2001-2002
