Gee, you might
think I was insecure in my romantic relationships. What unpleasant lyrics, yet
I recall the melody being rather catchy. No matter; I never recorded this one.
No one with even half a poet’s heart would ever write something like this. I’ve
been reading Patti Smith’s M Train.
Every paragraph is filled with literary and artistic references. Every other
paragraph comes with a moment of insight or inspiration. She prays. She reads
Ibsen. She drinks tea in tiny cafes in every corner of the globe, communes with
nature, feels everything intensely, finds deep meaning in every mosquito. How can
anyone be so impossibly poetic and Bohemian? There she is: the High Priestess
of Punk. The successful poetess of CBGBs. I can’t afford to be that poetic and
Bohemian. It takes a lot of money to live like you don’t care about money. I
like her anyway.

I Wanna Make You Cry
© 1984 Brian
Hutzell
What should I
have to cry by myself
Why should I let
your new love put me on the shelf?
Why should I be
alone
Why should I take
the blame
I want to share
it with you
I want you to
feel the same
I wanna make you
cry
I wanna make you
feel miserable
Gonna pile on the
guilt
Make your romance
unbearable
I wanna see you
die
Like I’ve already
done
Don’t want you
loving someone else
Don’t want you
having fun
Without me
Without me
I can’t tell you
to come back to me
But I can’t
change the fact you made me angry
Now I’ve cried
long enough
And I’m turning
on you
I want to show
you how it feels
I want you to
suffer too
I wanna make you
cry
And I will not
sleep
Till you lie
awake nights
And you hurt down
deep
I wanna make you
lie
On the nails that
were meant for me
And when I hear
you scream out
I’ll be in
ecstasy
Without you
Without you
