When I wrote the Cut Pieces collection, I had lots of
fragments that deserved a home, and I needed to provide them with a place to
feel comfortable. Now we need to find ourselves a place to call home. In the
attached picture, I am creating part of my display for the Urban Notebooks art
show at LocalProject in Queens. I miss New York, as I miss Boston and Chicago.

I Followed A Rainbow

Little Georgie
has a green glass
Little Georgie
has a peach
Little Georgie
wants a clean glass
Little Georgie
has to reach
Heroes die
because they’re willing
That’s what makes
them heroes
Decisions made by
men in suits end in lots of zeroes
And now they say
the bees have stopped making honey
Don’t you hate it
when the punchline isn’t really funny?
I followed a
rainbow to the end
But couldn’t get
back again
I followed a
rainbow to the end
But couldn’t get
back again
The system is
crooked and cannot be mended
It worked as long
as we pretended
A noble
experiment soon to be ended
I followed a
rainbow to the end
But couldn’t get
back again
I followed a
rainbow to the end
But couldn’t get
back again
I’m showered and
shaved and well-behaved
The hipsters
believe I’m too square to be saved
I followed a
rainbow to the end
In an effort to
baffle, I married a waffle
I followed a
rainbow to the end
The school has
closed its doors, posted guards on all the floors
I followed a
rainbow to the end
A couple of
couplets more subtle than cutlets
I followed a
rainbow to the end
Now, thanks to
you, I’m fifty shades of blue
