I’ve never
particularly liked this one, but lots of people have told me they do, so who am
I to judge?

When I come home
late, you’re right there waiting
You say that
while I’m away, your heart is breaking
I explain, but it’s
all in vain--you’re crying
I give up trying
Later, I find a
note apologizing
I smile at the
things you wrote; you said the right things
Little tiffs won’t
hurt us if they’re passing
Our love is
lasting
Something always
pulls us through ‘cause we’re funny lovers
We’re laughing
all of the time--wiping tears from our eyes
Takes a certain
attitude, being funny lovers
To keep the humor
aloft, the smiles we wear don’t come off
An indiscretion
or two begins to surface
When you hear the
news, your first urge is:
Call it off; this
thing is not worth saving
But with
persuading,
You agree to listen
to me as I sincerely
Promise not to be
so free philandering
That same day, I
hear you say, “I love you,”
To I know not who
Something always
pulls us through ‘cause we’re funny lovers
We’re laughing
all of the time--wiping tears from our eyes
Takes a certain
attitude, being funny lovers
To keep the humor
aloft, the smiles we wear don’t come off
The fun never
lets up; it’s never over
One episode will
run fright after another
And it builds
until the moment bedtime’s come
Something always
pulls us through ‘cause we’re funny lovers
We’re laughing all
of the time--wiping tears from our eyes
Takes a certain
attitude, being funny lovers
To keep the humor
aloft, the smiles we wear don’t come off
