"Speak Up"

I have not been in a school mood all day, but somehow I’ve managed to get quite a bit of schoolwork done for the two classes I’m taking online through Upper Iowa University.

Speak Up

© 1993 Brian Hutzell

Creeping without a sound
Keeping the volume down
Practicing restraint, so we won't receive complaints

But someone's got to make a move
Someone's got to say a word
Better call the papers, better wake the neighbors
Someone's got to lead the flock
Or we'll never have the strength to knock down the walls when freedom calls

Speak up! Cut the whispering!
Don't you want them to hear you?
Speak up! Folks are listening
Don't you want them to pay attention?
Did I mention that good intentions without actions get no satisfaction?

Leaping, giving birth
Seeping into the earth
I don't wanna be the one to tell you how to make a point
I don't wanna be the king the people pull out to anoint

Speak up! Cut the whispering!
Don't you want them to hear you?
Speak up! Folks are whistling
Don't you want them to stop, look and listen to your case?
It's time to face the crowd and speak out loud and clear

Throw the book aside
There's an audience tonight
You won't need a script to help you once your words ignite

But someone's got to make a move
Someone's got to say a word
Better call the papers, better wake the neighbors
Someone's got to lead the flock
Or we'll never have the strength to knock down the walls when freedom calls

Speak up! Cut the whispering!
Don't you want them to hear you?
Speak up! Folks are blistering
Don't you want them to jump up and follow your advice?
Wouldn't that be nice
Speak up!
