"Speak To Her"

Shyness is nice, and
Shyness can stop you
From doing all the things in life
You'd like to

Speak To Her

© 1990 Brian Hutzell

If you see a beautiful girl on the train
At school, grocery shopping, or wherever
Speak to her!
Be noticed, be open
Life: be in it!

I see the girl of my dreams in the next seat
But I sit there like a dummy
Shy.
The opportunity I am wasting
On my sheepish inner luggage

A part of me is anxiously encouraging me to say anything

Speak, speak to her
You want to. Why don't you?
Speak, speak to her
Why be afraid of strangers?
Speak, speak to her
Open up
And think of something

To begin: soft violin
Maybe playing
Even in a noisy subway

Speak, speak to her
You want to. Why don't you?
Speak, speak to her
Why be afraid of strangers?
Speak, speak to her
Open up
And think of something
