I have recorded my dreams for decades, but only rarely tried to turn a dream directly into a song. Sometimes it works, as with “Lady Messiah,” but other times I just get a weird mess, as is the case with “Seeing The Show Again.”

Seeing the Show Again
® 1985 Brian
Hutzell
A box was
delivered to my home
It said “Handle
with care,”
But didn’t say
who it was from
When I picked it
up, it fell apart
And pieces hit
the floor
And turned to
film on the carpet
It began to glow
like a movie screen
So I turned out
the lights to watch the show
I already know
how it ends
I’m just seeing
the show again
It’s safe to see
something seen before
I know it’s full
of sex and full of gore
I feel relaxed
knowing all the facts
At the end the
film lifted up
And a staircase
was revealed
I walked down
into a dark red room
Some of my
friends were there so we had a party
And a beast jumped
out of the cake and danced on the table
I already know
how it ends
I’m just seeing
the show again
It’s safe to see something
seen before
I know it’s full
of sex and full of gore
I feel relaxed
knowing all the facts
At the end of its
dance it held out a hat
And we threw
coins for the beast
It smiled and
devoured a few of the guests
I was scared as I
ran up the stairs back to my house
And I continued
living as always then I died
I had a heart
attack on the floor
Then the film
appeared again
And the movie
began again
I already know
how it ends
I’m just seeing
the show again
It’s safe to see something
seen before
I know it’s full
of sex and full of gore
I feel relaxed
knowing all the facts
I know where I’m
going
Do you?
