When I listen to my old tapes, like this one that Vin and I recorded in the late 1980s, they sound very dated. However, not nearly as dated as some recordings. For example: I am now listening to some recordings from the 1890s. These are some very early music recordings, and their quality reflects their age. I love this stuff though! It helps me feel better about my life as a musician when I can place myself into an historical tradition.

I Can Tell

I see your
wandering eyes
We stand under
the stars with the sounds of the night
Then, for no
reason, you look my way
We stumble for words,
but there's nothing to say
It's alright,
it's alright
I can tell, I can
tell
I can tell like I
know myself
I can tell, I can
tell
I can tell like I
know myself
The water between
glistens in the light
The sight of your
face is reflected in mine
I know it's not
easy to open your mind to the heart of a stranger
But with me it's
alright
It's alright, it’s
alright
I can tell, I can
tell
I can tell like I
know myself
I can tell, I can
tell
I can tell like I
know myself
The end of the
evening, the moon is alive
A soft wind blows
your hair in your eyes
You brush it away
with a shiver so slight
I offer to cover
your shoulders from the chill of the night
Would you be
mine?
Please be mine!
I can tell, I can
tell
I can tell like I
know myself
I can tell, I can
tell
I can tell like I
know myself
