Self Portraits

Last year, I did a whole show of self portraits at the Drive-By Gallery in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The portraits were a combination of photography, drawing, and digital imaging. This one, "Thinking," was not in the show, as it is a newer example.

To see more of the Self Portrait series, visit my Self Portrait Gallery:

The Drive By Gallery is part of Cambridge Community Television, which is a fantastic place! For more info, go here:

Weird Art

This is a very weird piece. I'm not sure what it means, but I sorta like it. The title is "Man and Beast."

"Do You Like My Hat?"

Again with the hats! The title for this piece comes from a line in the children's book Go, Dog, Go!

Hats

Here's "Tex." I notice I draw lots of hats on my characters. Maybe it's because I always loved the Sid & Marty Krofft show "Liddsville," about a fantastic world populated by living hats. I think the appeal of fantasy worlds comes from the drudgery (or perceived drudgery) of the world we live in. Neverland, Wonderland, Narnia, Oz, etc. all promise something better, or at least something different and more exciting! Unfortunately, chasing after Solla Sollew seldom works.

The Downtown Book

I've been re-reading The Downtown Book, edited by Marvin J. Taylor. It's all about the New York arts scene south of 14th Street, circa 1974-1984. That was an especially fertile time and place for the arts, and one of the reasons I am drawn to it is that the artists of that scene did not restrict themselves to any one medium or discipline. I like to explore lots of different avenues myself. In addition to my visual art, I am also a musician. Trombone and piano are my main instruments. I have a small music webpage here:

"Doonesbirdie"

The nose came first, then the eyes, and when I was done it looked like a demented birdman from the comic strip "Doonesbury." I gave him a sporty polka-dot bowtie to wear

Cartoons

I love cartoons! Charles Schulz, Dr. Seuss, Keith Haring, those great Warner Brothers animations, etc. So I have a whole portion of my website set up as a cartoon gallery:

And here's a new cartoon to get you started - "But Is It Art?"

"Dancer"

I'm going to try to keep this blog active by adding something new to it every day. Today's entry: "Dancer." This one began life as a doodle in one of my journals.

The latest creation

This one, "Disposable Machinery" is sort of a companion piece to "Impossible Party." Another digital collage, it brings together several images – including my trademark footprint.

New Artwork

Here's my latest artwork, called "Impossible Party." It's a mix of marker, colored pencil, and milkpaint footprints, all collaged together on the Mac before printing on photopaper. Enjoy!
